An independent Ontario biochar company.
Built on-site
Charged Earth Inc. is an Ontario corporation. We are independently owned and biochar is the whole business — not a side line of somebody else's.
We came to it from professional horticulture: years spent installing, amending, and watching how soil actually responds over the seasons that follow. Biochar kept coming up as the one amendment that reliably delivered what it promised, at a price that worked for professional installs and home gardens alike.
We could not find a Canadian-packed hardwood biochar that published its batch analysis, labelled itself properly, and made its claims within the boundaries of the evidence. So we started Charged Earth.
What we stand for
Three things.
Transparency as a product feature. Our launch lot was analysed by an independent laboratory at the University of Guelph, and the results are published on the Lab Results page against the lot number stamped on your bag. You do not have to take our word for what is in it — you can look it up.
Claims that stay inside the evidence. Our research library ties every physical-property claim on this site to the peer-reviewed papers that support it. What we do not claim — yield increases, carbon offsets, environmental benefits.
Horticulturist's mindset. We think in seasons and years, not weekends. Biochar is a long-horizon amendment. The marketing of quick fixes and guaranteed results does not match how soil actually responds.
Where we work
Eden Mills, just east of Guelph, Ontario. The soil we know best is the heavy clay of the Niagara Escarpment-to-Lake Ontario corridor — that is where our own horticultural work has been done, and it shapes how we write our application guidance. Our shipping is Canada-wide but we are Ontario-first by origin.
What is next
One product today — a 6.5 L bag of hardwood biochar, batch-traceable to an independent lab result. We would rather perfect one bag than approximate three.
A larger format is next, and wholesale volumes are quoted per account today. If you need a size we do not list yet, tell us what you need — demand is how we decide what comes next.
